The New Horizons Band offers people, "approaching" and over the age of 50, the opportunity to play in a large band as well as smaller ensembles such as stage bands, polka bands, Dixieland bands and chamber music groups. Prior musical experience is not required! If you have a desire to play with a group, regardless of how long you'll be approaching 50, come check us out!

The Austin New Horizons Band was begun in 1998 as part of an outreach program of the University of Texas Butler School of Music.  The band continues to receive support from the school and is very appreciative of the school's promotion of music in our community.   The band is also affiliated with the New Horizons International Music Association which has approximately 150 bands, orchestras and choruses throughout the United States, Canada and Ireland.

We perform many free concerts each year in a wide variety of venues throughout the Austin and Central Texas area.

The New Horizons Band is under the direction of Mr. Glenn A. Richter, former Longhorn Band Director from 1980 to 1995 and Professor of Instrumental Conducting and Associate Director of Academic Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin Butler School of Music.   He is currently retired.

We generally rehearse every Thursday evening from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.  Check the Calendar page for current rehearsal location and upcoming concerts.
