Glenn Richter, Professor of Music at U.T. Austin, retired in 2015 after 44 years of teaching music. His most recent appointment was as the Director of the Butler School of Music. Professor Richter came to U.T. in 1980 as the Director of Longhorn Bands, a post he held for 15 years. He was previously the Conductor of the Michigan Marching Band and Director of Bands at the University of Cincinnati. In 1983 Professor Richter coordinated the donation of the music rights to The Eyes of Texas, a gift from Arthur Gurwitz of Southern Music Company. In 2012 he secured the musc rights to Texas Fight on behalf of U.T. Austin before the rights fell into the open market. The rights to both well-known school songs now fund scholarships for Longhorn Band members. Professor Richter taught classes for the Plan II Honors Program for 20 years.
